Researcher in Hydraulic Fracturing
Written by Suleman Shahid
Wednesday, 18 January 2006
Job description
Experiments with a biaxial cell on fracturing
of soft rock. The experiments represent the reality of hydraulic
fracturing of boreholes at great depth in unconsolidated reservoirs. In
particular we will investigate the fracture propagation if the sample
is saturated with viscous oil, while injecting water. Advanced
data-acquisition with X-Ray CT scanning makes it possible to determine
the fracture propagation and fluid flow during the test. Numerical
modelling of the experiments will be used to interpret the data. The
successful candidate will be able to perform experiments and numerical
simulations and is expected to make new contributions in one of these
areas.
Requirements
University Graduate PhD level graduate in
Petroleum Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering or Civil
Engineering. Strong mathematical background and experience with
sophisticated experimental techniques, preferably in fluid or rock
mechanics.
