Usman Javaid:
--------------------- INTERNSHIP OFFER Title Analytical study of Media Independent Handover (802.21) scheme for Seamless Mobility across Heterogeneous Access Networks Outline: Following are the objectives of the internship: - To study Media Independent Handover (MIH) 802.21 layer on top of heterogeneous access technologies in order to offer fast handover and efficient mobility management - To analyse and develop MIH's usage scenarios in heterogeneous environments - To envisage the ad-hoc mode of operation with MIH's support - To develop the heterogeneous simulation environment in NS-2, which consists of Wi-Fi, Wi-Max, Bluetooth and UMTS Profile: Masters (By Research) Technical Skills: The potential candidate should have the following competences: - Excellent command on NS-2 - Good understanding of the following access technologies: Wi-Fi, Wi-Max, Bluetooth, UMTS - Good understanding of ad-hoc networks and related routing protocols such as OLSR, AODV and DSR - Very good programming in C++ and sound analytical skills - Good knowledge about mobility management in heterogeneous networks (optional) Other Details: 6 months, April – September 2007, Lannion (Bretagne), France Background: The proliferation of communication technologies and networks in the last few years has highlighted the strong need of network convergence. Mobility management and fast handover are among one of the key challenges which need to be addressed to respond the open questions of convergence. To this end, IEEE 802.21 working group has join hands to offer a Media Independent Handover (MIH) scheme which crafts strong cooperation among the heterogeneous networks rendering a high level of transparency to the higher layers of the protocol stack. In this internship, the aim is at first to develop the environment in NS-2 where heterogeneous access networks co-exist. And then to study the MIH layer impact under different scenarios of mobility management and others. Contact: Usman Javaid Research Engineer, France Telecom R&D
