Job Title Research Fellow (DSTA-funded Project Tacrea: Localization in Urban Areas based on Imagery from Mobile Cameras)
Job Description
We are looking for a Research Fellow to work on a DSTA-funded project entitled "Project Tacrea: Localization in Urban Areas based on Imagery from Mobile Cameras". This work will be carried out at the Centre for Multimedia & Network Technology (CeMNet). This project deals with localizing a user carrying/wearing a mobile camera in an urban area based on images captured from the camera. Such image-based localization technology is particularly useful in unfamiliar high-rise urban areas, where GPS triangulation may not be adequately achieved due to line-of-sight obstruction. The prior data available is a 3D geometric model layout of the urban area, which may optionally include facade appearance data. The proposed framework involves separate stages of recognizing buildings, determining image-to-model registration, and followed by pose computation. The system will be tested on both regular field-of-view cameras as well as omnidirectional cameras. The research fellow is expected to identify the hard research problems in the project, aggressively search for solutions, and flesh out the technical details of the research framework. The research fellow will be the research heart of the team and will provide guidance for the team members in terms of achieving the key research objectives of the project.
Requirements
* A PhD degree from a good university. * Proven research credentials (publications and/or building research systems) in a computer vision-related topic. * Strong preference will be given to individuals who have track record of collaborating and leading research groups.

Job Title Research Fellow/Research Associate
Job Description
We are looking for a Research Fellow or Research Associate to work on an ASTAR funded project “An ontology-augmented, context-aware Web services framework for agile enterprise collaboration”. This project aims to automatically generate executable business processes supported by the most appropriate services for inter-enterprise collaboration.
The research challenges in forming abstract business processes are:
*
To model the various modes of collaborations among enterprises in general, the conditions under which they are most relevant, and therefrom the corresponding abstract business processes. *
What is the most appropriate level of abstraction of a business process? If a business process is too abstract, there may not be corresponding Web services; not abstract enough and it is inflexible. *
To articulate and model abstract business processes. For example, how are abstract business processes formed in real life and how to encapsulate this in a model? *
The creation of a Context-Aware Framework (CAF) with likely a “knowledge repository” and “cognitive reasoner” to support the formation of abstract business processes. The CAF will, among other things, expound the meaning of context-awareness vis-à-vis enterprises, how such awareness is sensed and the information represented and processed. To the best knowledge of the authors, this has never been attempted before, although context awareness has been applied extensively in ubiquitous mobile computing.
Together with a team of other research staff and students, the candidate will carry out research and development to help achieve the aims stated above.
Requirements
* A recent PhD degree and research experience in semantic Web or related area. Candidates with other relevant academic and research backgrounds will also be considered * Some experience in developing and testing complex IT/organizational systems and/or management experience in global, distributed manufacturing are highly regarded * Good written and oral communication skills
