The Human Computer Interaction lab at the Department of Informatics
invites applications for a vacant PhD scholarship within the following
research area: Cultural usability.

The studentship is part of a research project that aims to investigate
the impact of culture on the results of established usability testing
methods. Information about the research project - including project

The application must include a project description focusing on
established methods for evaluating usability in three countries: Denmark,
China and India, and how the methods can be improved to avoid cultural
bias and produce comparable results across the countries.

Applicants with a master degree in the humanities or social sciences, in
particular psychology or anthropology, will be preferred. In addition, it
is necessary to have an insight into computer science and informatics.

The department will prioritize applicants who are able to demonstrate
empirical and theoretical competence, research methodological awareness
and an interest in being part of the department's research community and
collaborating with the private sector.

General information:

To be awarded a scholarship, one must be enrolled as a PhD student.
Enrolment is dependent on the acceptance of an application, including a
short project description prepared in co-operation with the Department.
The description of the research project should contain a presentation of
the intended focus problems, including the theory and methodology
expected to be used.

A PhD scholarship runs for a period of 3 years and is only awarded to
applicants with a Master's degree. Applicants who can document further
qualifications can make a special agreement to be employed as research
fellows for 2½ years.

The scholarship stipulates that the holder carry out tasks equivalent to
840 work hours.

Salary and appointment as a PhD student or a research fellow will be in
accordance with the Ministry of Finance's agreement with the Central
Academic Organisation.

In addition, all applicants must submit an application that includes a
completed compulsory application form, copy of Master's degree
certificate or other certificates of a corresponding level, a brief
curriculum vitae (CV), and a list of papers and publications.

A committee of experts in the field in question will consider all
applications. Assessment of the applicants will be based on the quality
and relevance of the project, including an evaluation of the applicant's
ability to accomplish it.

If it is not stated elsewhere the application must be submitted in
triplicate.
