The Department has approximately 350 employees and more than 700 students.

Visualization concerns the use of interactive graphics to enable people to get insight in data. To this end, interesting aspects have to be visualized in a clear way. This raises immediately a number of research questions, namely, (1) how can we enable users to express their interest in an intuitive and effective way, (2) how can we use various graphical means such that each element of the image gets the attention it deserves, and (3) how can we use the concept of 'interest' to improve the interactive exploration of large amounts of data? The aim of the project is to develop generic models and guidelines that are applied and validated in practice. The primary application domain is Software Visualization, a challenging field where large and complex data sets have to be handled.
