PhD student (biomolecular mass spectrometry) PDF Print E-mail
Written by Suleman Shahid
Saturday, 07 January 2006

Job description
full-time (38 hours per week) for a period of 4 years

In the NWO-supported project ‘Selective sequestering and quantification of proteins bearing a bioorthogonal chemical label’, we aim to answer the question to what extent gene expression is regulated at the level of protein synthesis and degradation. For this purpose, proteins are time-dependent labeled to allow selective purification and quantification. Tools for purification and quantification are to be developed and tested.

Throughout the project, the PhD student will synthesize resins for bioorthogonal sequestration, test these with proteins and proteomes from cells grown under different conditions, and identify and quantify resultant peptide and protein mixtures with advanced protein chemistry and analysis tools, including multidimensional nanoLC and mass spectrometry.
