http://www.cs.uni-magdeburg.de/Description.html
deadline - 15 jan 2006
The Master of Data and Knowledge Engineering (M.DKE) has been
established for high-potential students with a Bachelor degree in
Computer Science or related fields. It imparts profound skills in Data
& Knowledge Engineering, one of the most promising career areas for
ambitious computer scientists. The Time Magazine ranks Data &
Knowledge Engineering among the ten most important and seminal
knowledge areas of the 21st century!
The subject area of the M.DKE is "Engineering" for Data and for Knowledge, including
* tools for the representation and management of large data and knowledge assets,
* technologies for the design and development of advanced databases, knowledge bases and expert systems,
* methods for the extraction of models and patterns from conventional data, texts and multimedia,
* techniques and instruments for the representation
and processing of extracted knowledge and their utilization in
information and decision support systems.
The M.DKE spans application areas ranging from business intelligence
and market watches to life sciences, biotechnology and safety. It
builds upon advances in networked services, people and agent
communication, in decision support, information systems and management.
The M.DKE of the Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg attaches
special importance to the combination of methodological and
technological expertise and application understanding. It is built
around
* core technology areas including knowledge representation, discovery, management, and processing,
* supportive areas like advanced database modelling
and management techniques, security solutions and communication and
interaction methods,
* underpinning management skills to promote business understanding and strategy-oriented business practices.
The M.DKE can be studied in German or English and is thus open to students mastering either of the languages. |
