Students who apply and are offered entry to postgraduate courses at the
University of Dundee starting in academic year 2006/2007 are eligible to
apply for an Overseas Student Scholarship. These will be offered in the
Faculties of Arts & Social Sciences, Engineering and Physical Sciences and
Life Sciences. The scholarships will be awarded on academic merit and will
be a contribution toward overseas tuition fees. The awards will be paid
directly to the Finance Office of the University on behalf of the
recipients. Postgraduate students successfully awarded an Overseas Student
Scholarship will therefore only be liable for the difference between the
full overseas tuition fee and the scholarship awarded.

For how long is the Overseas Student Scholarship tenable?
Overseas Student Scholarships are awarded on academic merit and are
tenable for each year of full-time postgraduate study and research,
subject to satisfactory progress and performance. If the recipient
makes satisfactory progress in accordance with degree regulations, the
scholarship will therefore be awarded in each year that the full
postgraduate tuition fee is charged. Overseas Student Scholarships do
not cover periods of 'continuation' when postgraduate students are no
longer full-time, are writing up, or have submitted their theses for
examinations.
The Overseas Student Scholarship will be discontinued if performance
and/ or progress of the recipient are deemed by the awarding Faculty to
have fallen below an acceptable standard.
Who is eligible to apply for an Overseas Student Scholarship?
In order to be eligible to apply for an Overseas Student Scholarship you
must be applying for, have already applied for, or already have been
offered, a place to undertake full-time postgraduate study or research
commencing in session 2006/2007, in one of the Faculties listed above. You
must also be designated as an overseas student for tuition fees
purposes.
The University will issue details of the Overseas Student
Scholarships and an application form to all relevant overseas enquirers
together with the standard University application form for postgraduate
study and research. Any applicants for postgraduate study in 2006/2007 who
had applied for a place or were already offered a place in the relevant
Faculties prior to the introduction of the scheme will also be sent an
application form and invited to apply for a Overseas Student
Scholarship.
Who is not eligible to apply for an Overseas Student Scholarship?
Postgraduate applicants for postgraduate study and research in the
Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry & Nursing, Duncan of Jordanstone
College of Art and Design and the Faculty of Law & Accountancy are
not eligible to apply for an Overseas Student Scholarship. Nor are
students domiciled in the UK or EU and designated as 'home' students
for tuition fee purposes for whatever reason.
Postgraduate students awarded any other scholarship or grant, be it
by the University or by an external body, are not eligible to apply for
a Overseas Student Scholarship. Students benefiting from any other
special fee reduction will also be ineligible to apply. In other words,
overseas postgraduate students can only benefit from one scheme leading
to a reduction in their fee liability at one time.
How will the Overseas Student Scholarship be awarded?
Overseas Student Scholarships will be awarded on academic merit to
suitably qualified candidates in the Faculties of Arts & Social
Sciences, Engineering and Physical Sciences and Life Sciences.
Applications for the postgraduate scholarships will be considered along
with the applications for postgraduate study and research received from
eligible candidates.
How do I apply?
Application for an Overseas Student Scholarship must be made on the
application form sent to you by the University with your application
form for postgraduate study or research. The form must be completed,
signed and returned with your application for postgraduate study.
If you have already applied for a postgraduate place, or have already
been offered and accepted a place for 2006/2007, you will be issued with
the Overseas Student Scholarship application form and this guidance note in
due course and well in advance of matriculation.
Successful
applicants will be notified of the award of the Overseas Student
Scholarship in the letter offering them a postgraduate place. If you are
sent a conditional offer of a postgraduate place, the award of the Overseas
Student Scholarship will also be conditional upon fulfillment of the
specified conditions.
What is the application deadline?
The final deadline for submission of scholarship applications is 31st
July 2006
How will the Overseas Student Scholarship be paid?
The Overseas Student Scholarship is a contribution towards overseas
tuition fees. The value of the Scholarship will be paid by the Faculty
and will be deducted from your overseas tuition fee bill. This means
that although the full overseas tuition fee will be charged, you or
your sponsor will only be liable for the difference between the full
fee and the value of the Scholarship awarded. The University will tell
you of the amount when notifying you of the award of a Overseas Student
Scholarship.
