Michael Peacock Charitable Foundation Scholarships for Postgraduate Study
- Five Peacock Scholarships are offered for postgraduate study
at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) for the
academic year 2006/2007. The scholarships are open to students from
countries in the former Soviet Union and Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia,
Croatia, Bosnia, Macedonia, Kosovo and Albania. Scholarships are
tenable only at LSE.
- The intention behind this programme of
scholarship is to aid the transition of these countries to market
economies with Western style democratic institutions. The Peacock
Scholarships will be awarded to candidates of outstanding academic
merit who are able to demonstrate how their studies at LSE will make a
genuine contribution towards their country's future development.
Scholars will be asked to give an undertaking to return to their home
countries for further study or work on completion of their period at
LSE and to provide a clear statement of the work they intend to pursue.
- The
scholarships are open to students who have applied to and been accepted
by LSE to follow taught Masters programmes, for a maximum of 12 months,
at the School. In exceptional cases, candidates accepted for a Diploma
course may be eligible.
- The value of the scholarships will
vary depending on the financial circumstances of the successful
candidates. The average award given for the 2005/06 academic session
was £22,520. Wherever possible candidates will be expected to make a
contribution of the costs of studying at LSE and to this end candidates
are encouraged to explore other sources of financial assistance.
- Interested
candidates should apply for admission to a Master's programme at the
School following the School's normal admission procedures. Applications
for admission must reach the Graduate Admissions Office in sufficient
time for a formal offer of a place to be made by 28 April 2006.
- Eligible
applicants who receive an offer of admission to a Master's programme
(whether conditional or unconditional) by 28 April 2006 will be
considered for this award. Completed application forms must be returned
to the Financial Support Office at the School's postal address by 28 April 2006.
- An
academic reference must be supplied with the application form. It is
important that the reference supplied is completed in accordance with
the guidelines provided, which can be found here.
- You
must also supply a passport sized photograph with your name on the
back, which must accompany your completed application form.
- Decisions
on the award of the Scholarships will normally be taken by the end of
June. All applicants will be informed of the outcome of their
application in writing.
