Funded PhD student position in Neuro- / Developmental-Biology (Erlangen)
Written by Suleman Shahid
Thursday, 20 July 2006
Formation and maintenance of the neuromuscular junction (NMJ) needs as a prerequisite secretion of agrin by the nerve and activation of the receptor tyrosin kinase MuSK at the muscle fiber. These processes mediate the development of a
neuromuscular synapse by the induction of several signaling pathways leading to the aggregation of the components of the postsynaptic apparatus, like the neurotransmitter receptors.
We analyze: 1. importance of agrin induced signal transduction pathways at the NMJ 2. the impact of proteins, like CK2, interacting with MuSK and involved in downstream signaling events 3. the biological role of MuSK expression in the CNS
Recent papers of the lab: • Cheusova……Hashemolhosseini, Genes & Development, July 2006 • Cheusova, Khan……Hashemolhosseini, J Neurochem, 2006, in press • Khan……Hashemolhosseini, JBC, in preparation
A strong background in neurobiology, molecular biology, cell biology, or biochemistry is required. Candidates for PhD studentship should have a diploma or an equivalent degree in one of the fields named above.
