UK: PhD Studentship in The Area of Economic Regulation |

Applications are invited from students who hold a masters degree in
economics or a related discipline for a PhD studentship in the area of
economic regulation. Proposals in the areas of utility regulation, the
introduction of competition to markets which were previously
monopolised,
and consumer choice are particularly welcome. The student will be based
in
the School of Management (MGT) and their main supervisor will be
Professor
Catherine Waddams ,
director of
the ESRC Centre for Competition Policy.
The successful PhD appointee will become a student member of the Centre
for
Competition Policy. As well as the inter-disciplinary support network
of
other PhD students and members of the Centre, student members are
expected
to attend the weekly seminar programme and regular research discussions
throughout term-time.
The MGT studentship will cover the current home fees for PhD and a
stipend
currently at £10,500 per annum with research expenses of £750 per annum.
It
will be awarded for one year in the first instance, renewable for a
further
two years subject to satisfactory academic progress. The student will be
expected to provide some assistance with the MGT tutorial programme to a
maximum of 50 hours per academic year.
Students are also members of the School of Management, close to the
Centre
for Competition Policy, where research students are situated in a
dedicated
lab, with their own desk space. Each PhD student has access to a
powerful
desktop workstation, with large storage capacity, fast internet access
and
all the latest Microsoft Productivity tools and Data Analysis software.
They will also have access to the University network and all library
resources. A research training course will be provided for the first
year
of study.
