In accordance with the guidelines of the German Ministry for Education
and Research (BMBF) as well as the Foreign Office (AA), scholarships
are awarded by the Scholarship Department to German and foreign
students.
Applicants seeking to receive a scholarship for their studies must
be matriculated at a state or state-recognized university or college in
Germany. At the time they join the scholarship program, they may not
have exceeded the maximum number of semesters prescribed for their
respective course of study and they should still have at least three
semesters of studies ahead of them before achieving their degree.
Funding for one-year study programs is not possible.
When submitting your application, please observe the following requirements:
- Those applying for a Bachelor’s course, Diploma or Magister course
or a state examination must, at the time of application, have completed
their first semester of studies.
- Those applying for a Master’s course or other
postgraduate studies are advised to submit their application to the
Scholarship Department before the start of the postgraduate course; the
proof of matriculation in the respective course can be handed in later,
it must, however, be submitted at the beginning of the scholarship at
the latest. Applicants must furnish evidence of having completed their
undergraduate studies (Bachelor`s degree, Diploma, Magister, State
Examination) and should provide specific details as to how the content
of such a course of study builds on their undergraduate studies and how
it is linked to the applicant’s intended profession. If, at the time of
application, the diploma of the undergraduate study course cannot be
presented yet, all courses with their credit points must be enlisted;
the diploma can be handed in at a later stage, it must, however, be
submitted at the beginning of the scholarship.
- No tuition fees will be assumed for courses of study that are liable to costs.
Application Procedure
The application procedure is divided into three stages:
- Submitting a brief application (see below for “application documents” to be submitted).
-
Submitting a detailed application; interview with a liaison lecturer of
the Heinrich Boell Foundation/his or her written assessment.
- Workshop with individual interview and group discussion.
Following each application stage only a small group of applicants will
be selected that will be considered for the next round. About 10 to 20
% of all applicants will be asked to submit a detailed application.
Application Deadline is September 1, 2006
