PhD on vehicle routing under congestion
Written by Suleman Shahid
Tuesday, 03 January 2006
Job description
PhD position (4yr) on vehicle routing under congestion
Research topic
Current decision support tools for vehicle routing lack the ability to
deal with uncertain, departure time dependent travel times caused by
congestion. This is a major problem for logistics service providers. In
this research project, we aim to develop and test algorithms for
vehicle routing under congestion that are suitable for large scale
problems as they occur in practice. We proceed from predictions of
time-dependent travel times and the reliability of these predictions.
Your task is to develop quantitative approaches to use time-dependent
travel time information for vehicle routing problems in order to
generate efficient and robust schedules.
Project organization
This PhD project is part of a larger joint project of the University of
Twente, Eindhoven University of Technology and Erasmus University
Rotterdam that is granted by TRANSUMO. This project (three PhDs in
total) will be carried out in close cooperation with industrial
partners. As a PhD student, you will be a member of a multidisciplinary
