PhD studentship: ultra-sensitive laser spectroscopy
Victoria University of Wellington, Raman laboratory
Field(s): chemical physics Application deadline: Sep 12 (Tue), 2006
A Ph.D funced by the McDiarmind Institute is available in the optical
of metallic nanoparticles to be used as substrates for Surface
Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) under the supervision of Assoc. Prof.
P. G. Etchegoin and Dr. R. Tilley. Victoria has an active group in
Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering (for recent publications see the
web-page of the lab: www.vuw.ac.nz/raman). The project will involve
the manufacturing, characterisation, and use of novel metallic
interlinked structures to be used in single molecule SERS as well as
modelling of their electromagnetic properties. The project involves
the use of state of the art electron-microscopy and Raman spectroscopy
facilities at the McDiarmind Institute. A strong background in
chemical-physics / physical-chemistry as well as optical spectroscopy/
microscopy is highly desirable, but not essential.
To apply or obtain further information contact
P. Etchegoin by email:
Due to new regulations in New Zealand the position is available for
candidates of all nationalities. Excellent command of English and
writing/reading skills are a prerequisite.
Non-English speaking international students are required to provide
some proof of English proficiency.
