Bioinformatics research programmers

Job description
The programmer will be part of a team of
bioinformaticians which develops custom software for the storage and
(interactive) analysis of genomic data, such as microarray expression
data, protein-DNA interaction data, BAC array data and insertional
mutagenesis data. The bioinformatics team collaborates with a wide
range of researchers on projects conducted within the different
departments of the NKI-AVL. The research projects span clinical
applications, fundamental biology and the translational research to
bring basic science into clinical practice. The bioinformatics
programmer will be involved in the implementation of new tools within
the existing software environment. These tools will be employed to
improve the efficiency of the analysis and reporting of (clinical)
scientific research. There will be frequent interaction with clinicians
en researchers from diverse disciplines which will involve assisting
them in employing the developed tools to analyze their data, and to
train them in using the tools themselves.
Requirements
·University degree in either informatics or biology with a clear programming component.
·Advanced command of programming environments, databases, SQL, JAVA, Perl, Unix
·Shown interest in multidisciplinary (bioinformatics) research.
·Good communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate
collaboration with clinicians and biologists with very diverse
scientific and statistical background.
·Ability to pick up new clinical and biological concepts quickly.
·Good command of English.

Research in the Netherlands Cancer Institute
–Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital (NKI-AVL) covers all major areas of
cancer research, with special emphasis on mouse models, mouse (reverse)
genetics, cell biology, immunology, translational research requiring
close collaboration between clinical and basic scientists and
epidemiology and psychosocial cancer research.
Conditions of employment
Estimated maximum salary per month: eur 2000 - 2500 Employment basis: Temporary for specified period Duration of the contract: 2 years Maximum hours per week: 36
Additional conditions of employment:
The employment conditions follow general employment rules as laid down
in the CAO for hospitals. The salary will be determined depending on
education and experience.
