Job description
Full-time position. The candidate is expected
to contribute, supervise and coordinate ongoing research, to propose,
supervise and coordinate new related areas of research, to initiate and
support national and international collaboration, to pursue additional
external funding, and to disseminate the results appropriately.
To teach related courses and supervise MSc and PhD students in the context of this line of research.
Requirements
University Graduate Candidates should
have a strong academic background (PhD) in Computer Science, or
Artificial Intelligence with extensive knowledge of distributed systems
and agent systems, and experience in one of the two. Candidates with
interdisciplinary experience are encouraged to apply.

Intelligent Interactive Distributed Systems (IIDS) Group, Department of
Computer Science, Faculty of Sciences at the Vrije Universiteit
Amsterdam has a vacancy for a (senior) researcher.
The research programme of the IIDS group focuses on multi-agent system
technology in which both humans and automated systems can be
identified. Self management of both the applications and the system
software (middleware and services) is one of the foci of thisresearch.
Mobile, co-operative information retrieval agents, diagnostic systems,
and distributed design systems are the current domains in which
technology is developed and tested.
In this context the IIDS group works closely together with a number of other research groups nationally and internationally.
Within the VU, IIDS currently has a number of projects together with
the Computer and Law Institute on the legal, organisational and
technological implications of the use of software agents.
The research program has guaranteed funding from Stichting NLnet for
the coming 4 years, possibly to be extended in the future, with the
requirement that all results of this group's research are made
available in the public domain as open source.
The IIDS group has ongoing collaboration with a number of other groups.
For example, with the Computer and Law Institure at the VU to explore
the legal and technical implications of the use of software agents.

Estimated maximum salary per month: eur 4500 - 5000 Salaryscale 13. Maximum salary amount in Euro's a month 4996 Employment basis: Temporary for specified period Duration of the contract: A period of one year, with possible extension for 3 years. Maximum hours per week: 38
