A post-doctoral scientist position is available in a team working under
Professor Brandon Wainwright. The team is focused on the role of the
hedgehog pathway in common human cancer. The goal is to understand how
defects in developmentally regulated pathways lead to cancer and
develop novel approaches for the treatment. The group has focused on
skin cancer and has an increasing interest and activity in primary
brain tumours, particularly the regulation of stem cells in the normal
brain, and in tumours. The group makes extensive use gene knockout and
transgenic mouse models of human cancer, patient samples and natural
genetic variation in human and mouse populations which lead to disease.
Our goal is to address human disease using genetic approaches and
combine gene discovery/characterisation with drug development.
Applicants should possess a PhD in a relevant field (e.g molecular
genetics, cellular biology). Experience in molecular biology skills
and/or mammalian cellular biology are essential for this position.
Ideally, the successful applicant would also have a basic understanding
of bioinformatics and human/mouse genetics, knockout/transgenic mouse
and developmental biology experience.
This is fixed term, fulltime appointment at Research Academic Level
A for one year initially with renewal subject to funding. The
remuneration package will be in the range of $64,987 to $69,760 per
annum, which includes employer superannuation contributions of 17%. The
appointment will be at a level commensurate with the successful
candidate’s experience.
