Friday, 05 December 2008

Applications are invited for a 3.5 year project based Ph.D. studentship in the Computer Architecture Group. The collaborative project is investigating hardware and software architectures for massive spiking neural network simulations. The work is in conjunction with University of Manchester and their existing SpiNNaker project team: http://intranet.cs.man.ac.uk/apt/projects/SpiNNaker/

The successful candidates will have a first class honours degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.

Knowledge of hardware description languages and computer architecture would be advantageous.

Formal applications should be made through the Board of Graduate Studies:

Informal expressions of interest and enquiries should be made through the lead investigator: Dr Simon Moore [  ]

The funding could start as early as Easter term 2009, but starting in October 2009 is also possible. For an Easter term start, we recommend that applications are submitted no later than 15th December.
