Engineered Materials for High Performance Applications in Aerospace and Related Technologies
Department of Metallurgy and Materials
This four-year EngD degree programme is designed for both
full-time students and seconded employees. It will develop professional
engineering research skills and materials expertise through research
interspersed with taught courses.
EngD research projects are
company-based, with at least one industrial and one academic
supervisor. Industrial partners include Rolls-Royce plc, TWI, QinetiQ,
Goodrich, BAE SYSTEMS, Mettis Aerospace, Firth-Rixson and Doncasters.
The programme is co-ordinated from the EngD Centre at Birmingham, but
can be networked between any of the five EngD partner Universities
(Birmingham, Cambridge, Oxford, Southampton and Swansea), giving wide
access to specialised techniques and equipment.
The
research programme may consist of a single project or a group of linked
projects with a common theme. Students can commence their studies at
any stage during the year.
Candidates should have a 1st or 2.1
in Metallurgy, Materials Science or Engineering. The tax free stipend
for UK candidates from October 2005 is £18,500 per year.
