PhD Studentship in Cost Modelling of Integration of Nano-Technologies and MEMS into Space Equipment

Cranfield University is one of the leading Cost
Engineering research centres in the world. Modelling
Design, Manufacture and Integration Cost of new
technologies is a significant challenge for Industry. The
research is a collaboration between Cranfield University
and the European Space Agency to utilise Cranfield's
current experience in Cost Engineering of Embedded Systems,
nanotechnology and space systems. The study will involve
close interaction with the ESA and other Space and
Aerospace companies. The researcher will be part of a
large team of researchers in the area and have access to
Cranfield's COST STUDIO®.
Applications: We are looking for a pro-active and
energetic researcher who is capable of state-of-the-art
research and pushing the boundaries of Cost Engineering.
Interested applicants should have a background in either
one or more of the following subject areas:
Nano-technology, MEMS (MicroElectroMechanical), Electronics
Engineering, Manufacturing, Design or Engineering and have
or expect to gain a minimum of a First or Upper Second
Class UK Honours degree or equivalent. Additional
background in cost engineering and knowledge capture will
be beneficial.

Funding: The Researcher will receive £10.5K per
year for three years plus tuition fees. There is an
additional top-up grant of £4.5K in the first year.
Continuation of the top-up grant will depend on the
availability of further industrial sponsorship and
performance of the candidate.

from the ESA member states: Austria, Belgium, Denmark,
Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy,
Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain,
Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
