China: 25 Postgraduate Overseas Studentships - Lanzhou University PDF Print E-mail

Application deadlines: 25th June each year for entry into the autumn term, and 25th October for a spring term commencement.

Founded in 1909 in Lanzhou, capital city of Gansu Province, China, Lanzhou University is one of the key comprehensive universities directly administered by the Education Ministry. It is rated by the Science Magazine as sixth among the leading 13 Chinese universities. Lanzhou University is actively developing international education exchange and cooperation with universities and organizations in more than 30 countries. From April 2008 and annually, Lanzhou University will receive 65 studentships (40 for undergraduate and 25 for post-graduate) in the Chinese Government Scholarship Program, designed to enable overseas students to pursue Bachelor, Master or Doctoral degree programmes.

THE OVERSEAS STUDENTSHIP
The Overseas Studentship covers all tuition fees, costs of on-campus accommodation, internship, medical services, one-off settlement subsidy and intercity return tickets, plus an annual maintenance bursary of ¥13200 (Masters) and ¥16800 (PhD) (maintenance grants equivalent to £700-£1226 sterling, but equivalent in spending power to 10 times these amounts in the UK).

SUBJECTS AND DISCIPLINES
Subjects and disciplines: there is no discipline restriction on these studentships. Some postgraduate programmes will be jointly taught/supervised by leading professorial scientists from Lanzhou University and from several major UK universities.

ELIGIBILITY

Overseas applicants for the doctoral degree programme must have completed a Master’s degree or equivalent course and aged less than 40. Masters degree applicants must have completed a Bachelor or equivalent degree course and less than 35 years old.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
postgraduates are taught/supervised either in English or Chinese, so there is no specific language requirement
for students whose native language is English.
