Netherlands: Phd in Medical Biology, Biomedical Sciences or Biology PDF Print E-mail

As a PhD student (OIO) or clinical researcher in training (AIOSKO) in the Department of Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion, you will form part of a team supported by a VICI grant programme. The programme investigates the translation of cell therapy for immune intervention in type 1 diabetes from fundamental research to clinical application. You will be expected to carry out experiments independently and work interactively with the rest of the team as well as with other research teams within the department and the LUMC.

Requirements

University Graduate
You hold a university degree in Medicine, Medical Biology, Biomedical Sciences or Biology and have experience in immunology. Knowledge of cellular immunology is essential and a medical background or interest is preferred. You are able to work independently and in a team, and possess excellent communication skills, including fluent written and spoken English. You are enthusiastic and inquisitive and possess the creative skills to find solutions though with a critical eye for your work. A flexible work approach and ability to cope with stress is essential and you will be expected to present and publish your findings.

What we offer
You will be employed on the basis of a 36-hour week. Appointment is for four years. Your salary will depend on your qualifications and experience, with a maximum of € 2,572 gross per month as a PhD student and € 3,714 gross per month as a clinical researcher in training (AIOSKO) , based on a full time position (scale 10 of the Collective Labour Agreement for University Hospitals).

At the Leiden University Medical Centre (LUMC), we are continually seeking to improve the quality of healthcare. The LUMC aims for excellence in patient care, research, teaching, training and continuing education. You will work within the Autoimmune Diseases Section of the Department of Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion. The Section is a leading international reference in the field of immunology and works in close collaboration with other research groups within the department and the LUMC. The research team is a young, interdisciplinary team with clinical and academic skills. Its research focus is on the genetic predisposition to autoimmune disease, the role of T-cells in the pathogenesis of type 1 diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis, and translation to clinical relevance and design of innovative immunointervention strategies.
