Netherlands: PhD-researcher Molecular Genetics PDF Print E-mail
Written by Administrator
Wednesday, 27 August 2008

Using a combination of molecular genetics and proteomics you will investigate connections between developmental programs and environmental signals. You will focus on the post-translational modification status of proteins involved in developmental programs and signal transduction in response to environmental stimuli. You will complete your research and write a PhD thesis within 4 years.

Requirements

University Graduate
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a master's degree (or equivalent) in Biology or Biochemistry. Experience and affinity for molecular biology and genetics is highly valued.

Organization
Utrecht University
Faculty of Science
The new Faculty of Science consists of six departments: Biology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Information and Computing Sciences, Physics and Astronomy, Chemistry and Mathematics. The Faculty is home to 3500 students and nearly 2000 staff and is internationally renowned for the quality of its research. The Faculty's academic programmes reflect developments in today's society.

The Molecular Genetics group is part of the Biology department and investigates stem cells and developmental processes such as cell division, identity, polarity and differentiation using the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana.

Project description: Environmental control and regulation of development in Arabidopsis.

Plants modulate their development to fit the different environmental conditions they encounter. However the mechanism behind the modulation of these developmental programs in response to the environmental cues remains largely unexplored. At Molecular Genetics we are currently investigating the molecular interactions between the intrinsic developmental pathways and environmental signalling. Within this project, we currently have a position available for a PhD-researcher.

The PhD-researcher will be part of an ongoing research program and use the comprehensive knowledge on the root developmental program in our model system Arabidopsis to investigate how factors involved in stress signal transduction interact and modulate factors involved in developmental programs.
