PHD Studentship in Electronic and Magnetic Properties of Metallic Nanostructures
Written by Administrator
Tuesday, 07 February 2006
Closing Date : February 26
Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and
MPI of Microstructure Physics
Halle, Germany
Martin Luther University and MPI of Microstructure Physics are
closelyconnected in research projects concerning electronic, magnetic
and structural properties of nanostructures. We are especially
interested in the theoretical study of electronic and magnetic
properties of metallic nanostructures on different surfaces. Properties
like exchange interaction of adatoms can be modified by quantum
confinement. The engineering of such effects will be important for
applications in the future. The calculations are
performed using various ab initio methods.
The applicant should have good knowledge of solid state theory.
Applicants with a background in calculations using methods like (KKR;
FLAPW,VASP, ABINIT) are especially encouraged to apply.
The studentship lasts three years and can start 1st of April. For
excellent applicants a postdoctoral position would be considered.
Both institutes are seeking to increase the quota of woman scientists. Therefore, woman are especially encouraged to apply.
Handicapped applicants will be given preference to others of equal qualification.
The deadline for application is 26 of February.
Application Please send a covered letter, detailed CV
and information about your experience in solid state theory, ab initio
methods and computing as well as three academic references to:
Prof. Dr. W. Hergert
Department of Physics, Theory Group
Von-Seckendorff-Platz 1, D-06120 Halle
