Saturday, 02 August 2008

The centre for Energy and Built Environment Research of Brunel University invites applications from well qualified graduates for an externally funded PhD studentship on thermal insulation to start by 1st October 2008.

Most of the significant proportion of existing housing stock in the UK have solid masonry external walls which contribute significantly to thermal losses from the building. One way of reducing these losses is through thermal insulation of solid walls. The project will involve an in depth study of solid wall insulation materials and practices and the development of optimised designs and appropriate measures to accelerate the take up of the technology.

Applicants should hold a first or upper second class Honours degree or an MSc in a relevant Engineering or a Science discipline. The successful candidate will receive a tax free studentship in line with EPSRC-funded postgraduate studentship awards (£12940 in 2008-09 plus university tuition fees). He/she will also be expected to meet regularly with the sponsors write reports and give presentations to stakeholders.
Further details of the post can be obtained by contacting Professor Savvas Tassou at .

Closing date for receipt of applications: 5 September 2008
