Holland: PhD position in Content Analysis & P2P Networking PDF Print E-mail
Written by Administrator
Saturday, 26 July 2008

Today’s search engines perform much better at retrieving textual information than digital video information. The PetaMedia project (http://www.petamedia.eu) aims to improve the quality of search results for digital video by at least one order of magnitude. This innovation is being achieved by exploring and exploiting the synergies in combining three current multimedia search technologies, namely (1) automated multimedia content analysis; (2) collaborative tagging by users in social communities, and (3) distributed or peer-to-peer protocols for content recommendation (e.g., collaborative filtering). The realization of the envisioned video content labelling approach will be based on TU Delft’s Tribler P2P open source software.
The responsibility of the PhD researcher is to develop theory (models) and tools (algorithms) for cumulative and synergetic integration of various types of information available for content-based indexing and recommendation of video sequences, ranging from automatically obtained metadata and user-supplied tags to social and P2P network mechanisms for implicit user profiling and content recommendation (e.g. collaborative filtering).
