Written by Administrator
Wednesday, 16 July 2008

The Center for Latin American Studies awards a limited number of Graduate Assistantships to students in the M.A. program in Latin American Studies (MALAS). Typically, an assistantship is assigned for both Fall and Spring semesters. The assistantship provides a stipend of $12,500 total for the two semesters and covers the cost of 9 graduate credits of tuition per semester. In return, each assistant is required to work 13 hours per week for the Center for Latin American Studies.

Awards are made on an annual basis. Renewal for a second year of support is contingent upon the student’s academic performance and the supervisor’s evaluation of job performance. Renewals are also contingent upon the availability of funds. Funding decisions are made each February for the following academic year.

New applicants to the MALAS program, as well as students already in the MALAS program who do not receive any financial support are eligible to apply. Students in other degree programs cannot apply.
