Germany: Ph.D. Student in the area "Semantic Search and Recommendation

The "FZI Forschungszentrum Informatik an der Universität Karlsruhe
(TH)" is since more than 20 years the technology transfer institute of
Karlsruhe University - Germany's oldest technical university - in
Information Technology and related areas. In application-oriented,
interdisciplinary research projects funded by regional, national and
international funding programmes (like the European Commission's IST
programme), and in commissioned research for private industries, we
explore new ways of using IT for better or novel products and services.
As part of the FZI department "Information Process Engineering (IPE)",
Prof. Rudi Studer's team is currently investigating the topics of
semantic search and ontology-based recommenders in several projects,
such as the European IST project TEAM - [Link] (about Knowledge Management in Software Engineering) or the national German lighthouse project THESEUS [Link]
In this project context, we will hire as soon as possible a scientific researcher.
We are looking for creative people, being able to integrate fundamental
scientific research and the ability to pragmatically implement ideas
for practical use. You should have an excellent, outstanding degree in
Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Science, Cognitive
Science, Computer Linguistics, Computational Intelligence, etc. Good
communication and team-working skills, as well as fluent English are
expected, some job experience after studies may be a plus.
You should be experienced in one or more of the following topics:
Information Retrieval & Recommender Systems, Ontologies and
Semantic Technologies, Knowledge-Based Systems and AI. Additional,
useful topics may be: Machine Learning or Business Intelligence,
Databases, Knowledge Management, Software Engineering. Java is
mandatory, Eclipse knowledge would be useful.
