The Department seeks to recruit two Eng.D. research students to work on four year collaborative projects with Rolls-Royce plc. The specific projects will be in two of the following areas: texture of titanium; disk overspeed; and reactor materials. Successful candidates may be based in Oxford or in the company (Derby or Bristol) and will be required to attend short taught course modules at the University of Birmingham.

Successful applicants will have a first or upper second class honours degree in a relevant subject (eg engineering, mathematics, physics, or materials science) and evidence of strength in mathematics and numerical modelling. Evidence of successful completion of an independent project during undergraduate studies or other work experience is desirable, together with the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Successful candidates must be able to write clear, correct and concise English and a demonstrated ability to make clear, well illustrated presentations of scientific material would be advantageous.
