The aim of this bursary is to assist women to undertake and complete higher degrees by coursework at Australian universities.

The bursary may be used for the purchase or hire of equipment, fees incurred because of study commitments, or short-term assistance with living expenses.  Note that if the bursary is to be used for the purchase of equipment, the equipment must be for the personal possession and use of the applicant, not of her university department.  The bursary must be used within twelve months of the date of the award.Applications are invited from women who are Australian or overseas citizens and who are enrolled at an Australian university  (a) are studying for a Masters degree by coursework or are studying for a Doctorate where the major component is coursework; (b) have a good undergraduate academic record; and (c) are not in full-time paid employment or on fully paid study leave during the tenure of the bursary and (d) have not previously won this bursary.  There is no restriction on the field of study.  The bursary may be held concurrently with other awards.

Selection is based primarily on academic merit, but also on financial need, how essential the purpose for which the bursary will be used is to the progress or completion of the degree, community activities and other interests.

The value of the bursary is $4000.  A bursary may be shared by two successful applicants, and special grants may be offered to runners-up if sufficient funds are available.
