Written by Suleman Shahid
Monday, 30 January 2006
Over 125 bursaries will be awarded each year for undergraduate study
to students from schools or colleges in the UK who are experiencing
financial difficulties in taking up their place of admission at the
University of Edinburgh.
The value of the award is £1,000 per
annum which will be paid at the start of each academic session towards
maintenance costs and will be tenable for the duration of the
undergraduate programme of study subject to satisfactory academic
progress.
The Bursaries are sponsored from the following funds:
The University of Edinburgh Bursaries Fund supporting 5 students on the Pathways to the Professions scheme
The University of Edinburgh Development Trust
The William R McFarlane Bursaries supporting Scottish students
Eligibility
Applicants should:
Be
attending or have recently left a school, College or other Educational
Institution in the UK or the Republic of Ireland, and be classified as
a UK/EU domiciled student. Applications from mature students (21 years
or over) will be treated on an equal basis with those from younger
applicants, however, undergraduate bursaries are only offered to those
not already holding a degree qualification (except Divinity bursaries).
Students who have applied for part-time study can also be considered
for a pro rata award.
Have applied for admission to the University of Edinburgh for 2006 entry.
Selection Procedure
The
main criterion will be significant financial need, but the University
will also take into account other personal or family circumstances
which might make it difficult for a student to take up their University
place. To be awarded a bursary, you must have received and then firmly
accepted an offer, either conditional or unconditional, of a place by 1
May on year of entry. The award will be conditional on admission to the
University.
All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their bursary application during July 2006.
Application Procedure
The
application form together with Supporting Statement must be received by
the Scholarships and Student Finance Office no later than 30 June 2006.
You can apply at any time after making a UCAS application to study at the University of Edinburgh. There is no need to wait until you are offered a place.
