PostDoc or doctoral position in Göttingen  –  multifocal VEP and neural basis of visual perception

In Hans Strasburger’s lab in Göttingen, a 1-1/4 year postdoctoral position with possibility of extension is to be filled in an exciting project on the neural basis of visual perception and visual field representation in the brain, using the multifocal VEP and fMRI. The aim is a cross validation of retinotopic maps found with these separate techniques and development of methods of analysis.

Salary is according to German Federal pay scale (100% TVL-13, prev. BAT IIa).

The ideal candidate is bright and highly motivated, has excellent grades, is methods oriented, likes to work in an interdisciplinary team, knows MatLab, statistics and the visual system, and has demonstrated experimental and writing skills. Preferred backgrounds are from (visual or cognitive) neuroscience (excluding cell/molecular), engineering, math or physics, psychology, biology, visual psychophysics or visual electrophysiology.

The position can also be filled with a doctoral student for a highly skilled candidate. Critical is a methodological orientation. Salary would be according to the same scale (50% TVL-13, prev. BAT IIa) with appropriately extended duration of 2 ½ years (extendable).

We have excellent facilities in Göttingen, including a 3T research-dedicated scanner, high-grade visual stimulation, 64-channel MR-compatible EEG, and a Veris multifocal VEP setup. The candidate will receive thorough training in visual psychophysics and functional imaging (fMRI and EEG). The project is in cooperation with the Smith-Kettlewell Eye-Research Institute in San Francisco.

Please send CV, names of two referees, representative publication(s) and a statement of your reasons for applying for this position. Email applications and inquiries are encouraged.
