Three Doctoral
fellowships University of Antwerp (Belgium)
Assignment
As of 1 March 2006, three Doctoral Fellowships are
available at the Department of Economics, University of Antwerp, Belgium. The
PhD students will be engaged in one of the following three research projects:
• Industrial organization and banking (supervisor: J. Bouckaert) –
reference 0510 This doctoral project investigates important existing
endogenous obstacles that continue to impede further banking market integration.
In particular, we will study the role of information asymmetries in its relation
to information exchange between banks, contracts, and switching costs as
barriers to entry. • Competition policy on sports broadcasting
(supervisor: S. Kesenne ) – reference 0520 This project will study the
economic implications of collective versus individual selling of TV-rights in
professional team sports by comparing costs, prices, total league revenue,
distribution and welfare implications in a monopolized and a competitive market
of broadcast rights. • Pricing, investment and regulation in the
transport industries (supervisor: B. De Borger) – reference 0530 The
project aims at studying pricing, investment and regulatory policies in the
transport sector. Modeling will focus on, among others, imperfect competition on
transport markets, network congestion, and the separation of infrastructure and
operations in some transport markets. Moreover, the issue of potential tax
competition and tax exporting due to the prevalence of international transport
flows on local networks will be taken into account.
The research
projects will be carried out in four years.
The appointments will be for
12 months initially, to be extended with 3 years upon excellent performance,
with the aim of obtaining a PhD degree at the University of Antwerp. The salary
will be in accordance with the University regulations for academic personnel,
and will be € 1,590 net per month (first year). Start date is 1 April 2006, or
