The Department of Environmental Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU Environment) advertises a fully funded 3-year PhD position in Hydrologic Modelling, Data Assimilation and Remote Sensing. The project aims to develop methods to inform basin-scale hydrologic/hydrodynamic models with radar altimetry data from the Cryosat and Sentinel-3 satellite missions. The project will be carried out as a collaborative effort between DTU Environment and DHI. This PhD position will be partly funded by the projects LOTUS (EU-FP7) and CRUCIAL (European Space Agency).

Responsibilities and tasks
The successful candidate will have a background in hydrologic modelling. Previous experience with data assimilation methods and/or remote sensing is an asset. The candidate will develop a basin-scale coupled hydrologic-hydrodynamic modelling approach and a data assimilation method suitable for ingestion of water level measurements from radar altimeters. The candidate will work in a team consisting of scientists form DTU and DHI and partner institutions in the LOTUS and CRUCIAL projects. The method will be applied to a number of international case study river basins. Willingness to travel and work in an international environment is essential.

Qualifications
Candidates should have a master’s degree in engineering or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master’s degree in engineering.

Approval and Enrolment
The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval, and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes of DTU. For information about the general requirements for enrolment and the general planning of the scholarship studies, please see the DTU PhD Guide.
