Salary: The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £32,375 – £39,132 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

Description: Applicants are invited to apply for a Research Associate position in a European Commission funded project (TEH-TUBE) seeking to develop bio-resorbable implants for the repair of congenital heart defects.
The successful applicant will use the electrospinning technique to prepare polymer patches, valves, and tubes mimicking the right ventricle outflow tract of the heart. The materials prepared will be tested both in vitro and in vivo by other members of the TEH-TUBE consortium, and these results used to optimise the preparation processes. Ultimately, a completed valved tube will be prepared and tested in a lamb model.

Duration:The post is funded for 2 years and is available from 1 January 2014. The successful candidate is also likely to be offered a one-year follow-on contract from Statice SAS in Besancon, France, to translate the research findings into commercial applications.

Eligibility: Applicants must have a Ph.D. in materials, chemistry, mechanical or biomechanical engineering or a related subject, or have submitted a thesis before taking up the appointment.Experience of the electrospinning technique is essential and a background in medical products development is desirable.
