Denmark: Postdoc Researcher in Mesoscale modeller in the field of Wind Energy Meteorology at Technical University

Job description :
You will be a member of the meteorology section aimed at basic research in the field of boundary layer meteorology, assessment of wind resources for power generation and of wind loads on turbines and various other structures. Our day-to-day work ranges from the development of models and software, field measurements and assessment studies. We also study environmental problems related to the transport of air borne pollution and turbulence exchange of matter during interaction between the atmosphere and terrestrial or marine surfaces.

Qualifications :
The applicant should have:

  • A PhD or equivalent in meteorology, climatology or other closely related fields
  • Experience in running, modifying and analyzing the output of a mesoscale model; experience with WRF is a plus, experience with other mesoscale models is also an advantage
  • Experience with programing languages (Fortran, C, or C++), data processing software (e.g. IDL, NCL, R, or MATLAB), scripting (e.g. Python, Perl, C-shell) and familiarity with Linux environment
  • Strong understanding of atmospheric boundary layer processes
  • Good record of peer-reviewed scientific publication
  • Willingness to travel globally for project meetings, conferences, etc
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English Optional
  • Experience with wind energy resource assessment or other meteorological applications to wind energy or renewable energy
  • Experience in supervision of Master and PhD students
  • Experience running atmospheric models on large computer clusters
  • Ability to work independently and to efficiently deliver results on time
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Ability to take initiative, prioritize and work under set deadlines

The successful candidate will work with a team applying mesoscale models to wind energy problems, both in research and commercial projects and will be expected to collaborate with other groups within the Wind Energy Department, in cross disciplinary projects. As well as developing and implementing new ideas within wind energy meteorology, the candidate would be expected to write scientific articles, project applications, attend and contribute to conferences, workshops and project meetings.

Salary and terms of employment:
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. The period of employment is 3 years.
