UK: Postdoctoral Research Assistant in First-Principles Study of Novel Solar Energy Materials at University of Oxford

Grade 7: Salary in the range £29,541 – £31,331 p.a.

Description: A postdoctoral position is currently available within the group of Feliciano Giustino in the Materials Modelling Laboratory of Oxford University, to work on first-principles studies of novel solar energy materials and devices based on graphene. The post is for 1 year starting 1 October 2013 and is part of the EU FET Flagship “Graphene”. The aim of this project is to investigate the structural, electronic, and optical properties of graphene in the context of solar energy harvesting. The successful candidate will employ atomic-scale first-principles computational methods to investigate quasiparticle excitations and optical properties of novel materials for solar energy conversion, with a particular emphasis on graphene and related materials. Participation in the development of new computational methods for the study of electronic excitations is anticipated.

Eligibility: Candidates should demonstrate previous experience with the modelling of materials interfaces using density-functional theory, in particular hybrid organic-inorganic interfaces and graphene-based interfaces, and must be proficient in the use of post-DFT methods such as hybrid functionals or quasiparticle GW calculations.Candidates should have a doctorate (or at least have submitted their thesis) in Physics, Chemistry, or Materials Science with a strong emphasis on first-principles electronic-structure methods.
