Job description

This PhD position is funded by the EU-FP7 project GARPUR. The goal of GARPUR is to design, develop, and assess new system reliability criteria and management processes while maximising social welfare, with an eye to progressive implementation over the coming decades at a pan-European level. The new management methodologies encompass multiple business activities — system development, asset management, power system operation — that, in turn, ensure coherent decision-making at their respective time horizons. These methodologies also involve mathematical and computational models to predict the location, duration and consequences of power supply interruptions. Alternatives for improving reliability management of the pan-European power system will be proposed. After validation by the partner TSOs, these alternatives are analysed with the help of a software-based quantification platform.

Requirements

We are looking for excellent candidates with the following qualifications:
• MSc in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a closely related field;
• good mathematical modelling and programming skills;
• good English speaking and writing skills.
