Description:You will be ambitious with a strong chemistry background to undertake research on the permeability of graphene and related materials. There is enormous interest in the biological properties/interactions of graphene materials, particularly in their interactions with cell membranes.  This project builds upon work in the laboratories of Prof Dryfe (Chemistry) and Prof Tirelli (Medical & Human Sciences). The Dryfe group has expertise in graphene and its applications in electrochemistry, and the quantification of membrane transport (permeability). The Tirelli group has extensive experience of nanomaterials and nanomaterial-cell interactions. The project is funded for 6 months, via internal University funds, and it is hoped that further funding in the area would be forthcoming.
Requiements: You should have, or be working towards, a PhD or equivalent in analytical/physical chemistry, or closely allied area of biochemistry/pharmacology. You should be able to work independently and to communicate/summarise your work well in both oral and written form.
