Project: FoxP2 and language related neural networks

The PhD student will be part of the Donders Centre for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour (Dept. Cognitive Neurosciences) and The Max Planck Institute Nijmegen (MPI). We offer a stimulating scientific environment in a dynamic, young team, state-of-the-art facilities, and individually tailored training. The applicant will also be part of the Donders Graduate School for Cognitive Neuroscience. The Donders Centre for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour is one of the largest concentrations of neuroscience research in Europe (with over 100 faculty members), ranging from human cognition, to clinical studies, to cellular and molecular studies to computational studies, providing an excellent intellectual environment and infrastructures.

The MPI in Nijmegen is one of the leading research institutes in the world, with a highly stimulating environment, excellent facilities and resources. It is the only institution devoted to the question of how we acquire, produce and understand language, and its investigations are highly multidisciplinary, uniting anthropology, linguistics, psychology, neuroscience, computer science, and now genetics. Requirements

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a field related to molecular neurobiology/neurphysiology
  • Strong background in neuroscience
  • Previous lab experience in electrophysiology and/or molecular biology
  • Interest to learn/apply patch-clamp recordings and imaging techniques in brain slices
  • A good command of English

Conditions of employment

  • Temporary, 4 years
  • 36 hour per week
  • Scale 10A: max € 38600 gross per year at full employment (incl. vacation bonus and end of year payments). The monthly salary will increase to € 2.743 in the fourth year.
