UK: Doctoral/ Post Doctoral Associate Research in Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences at University of Exeter

Salary: £24,766 up to £27,854 per annum on Grade E, depending on qualifications and experience.

Description: The College wishes to recruit two Associate Research Fellows to support the work of Professor Kip Jeffrey. These full time posts are available from 01 September 2013 to 31 August 2014, and the successful candidate must be available on or very close to these dates.

The post will involve delivering the dissemination activities for the EU 7th Framework EE-QUARRY project. This project is developing more energy efficient methods and modelling techniques to assess energy usage at each stage of the quarry life cycle. It involves a consortium of aggregate and industrial mineral companies, research organisations, consultancies and specialist engineering companies. The post holder will be working closely with 11 EU partner organisations to assimilate project outcomes, develop CPD and other teaching materials from these, plan and run dissemination events, and undertake a broad range of external activities in support of the project.

The post will specifically include:

  • Liaising with, and traveling to, partner organisations and quarrying sites around Europe where the EE-QUARRY project dissemination activities are being undertaken.
  • Creating external promotion materials, digital and other teaching resources based on partner outcomes, activities and deliverables.
  • Research subject areas to provide additional material for use in course development
  • Develop coherent modules and CPD courses for the project outcomes and in related subject areas.
  • Work with academic staff to access relevant existing materials and resources to be used in course development.
  • Undertake administrative activities in support of EE-Quarry dissemination and course development activities.
  • Organise and run dissemination activities in UK & European locations, and attend EE-QUARRY project meetings as required.
  • Use university ELE (Moodle-based) VLE for on-line course delivery and support course participants as appropriate.
  • Other duties in support of Professor Jeffrey’s research and duties relating to mining education.

The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare papers, proposals and applications to external bodies and relevant stakeholders.

Eligibility: Applicants will possess a relevant MSc or PhD, ideally in Mining, Quarrying or Mining Engineering, be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge of the quarrying industry technology and life cycle to work within the research programme, as well as experience in the development of on-line DL / BL courses.
