Description:The computer simulation of genome scale metabolic networks allows prediction of metabolic capabilities of the cell and has been already applied for rational design of metabolism in synthetic biology, identification of metabolic vulnerabilities of bacterial pathogens and investigation of metabolic states in healthy and diseased human tissues. We believe that the major bottleneck preventing experimental biologists to fully capitalize on simulation is the lack of interactive network visualization in currently available tools. Thus, we will extend our SurreyFBA software to provide comprehensive set of methods through fully interactive network editor interface. We will test new software against a set of benchmark models developed in the complementary projects in the areas of liver disease, inflammation, bacterial pathogens and synthetic biology.

Eligibility: We are looking for candidates who can contribute in one (or more) of the following ways: i) implement graphical user interface with visualisation of molecular networks; ii) develop and implement new simulation approaches; iii) develop network models and test their predictive power by comparison with experimental data. Thus, we are looking for candidates with PhD in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics or biological sciences. In the case of experienced computer programmers, candidates with undergraduate degree, but no PhD may also be considered.
