UK: PhD Research Assistant in Trusted MHEALTH Infrastructure Development at University of Aberdeen

Description: TRUMP (A Trusted Mobile Platform for Self-Management of Chronic Illness in Rural Areas) is a large multidisciplinary project funded by the UK’s Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). It is investigating trusted digital technologies to support provision of chronic disease management programmes targeted at rural populations. The project is a collaboration between Aberdeen, Newcastle, City, Northumbria and Lancaster universities in the UK, and the International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore and the Indian Institute of Public Health, Hyderabad. UK PI for the project is Professor Peter Edwards (Computing Science, Aberdeen).

As part of our research programme we are now looking to appoint a research assistant to support development of a trusted information architecture. You will join other members of the TRUMP team at Aberdeen to realise a novel platform for management of patient information that will ultimately be trialled in the UK and India.

Eligibility:You should have a good Honours degree in Computer Science or a related discipline; an MSc with a relevant specialism would also be desirable. You are expected to be a highly competent programmer in Java and to have good knowledge of at least one of the following areas: web services, semantic web, automated reasoning. You should also have some significant practical experience in at least one of these areas. Some background in web site development/maintenance is also required. Interest in and enthusiasm for cross-disciplinary research is also essential.

As this post is funded by EPSRC it is available until 31 December 2014.

Salary: Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 5 scale (£25,504 – £28,685 per annum) with placement according to qualifications and experience.
