UK: Postdoctoral Research Position in Experimental Applied Mathematics at University of Oxford

Grade 7: Salary in the range £29,541- £34,223 p.a.

Description:We invite applications for a Postdoctoral research position, funded for 6 months by the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) Global Research Partnership, to work with Professor John Wettlaufer, Professor Alain Goriely and Dr Dominic Vella in the Oxford Centre for Collaborative Applied Mathematics (OCCAM), part of the Mathematical Institute at the University of Oxford. This position is available from 1 October 2013.The PDRA will develop new experimental apparatus and measurement schema related to problems in continuum and fluid mechanics and other problems at the experimental interface of mathematics/mechanics as being developed at the Mathematical Institute in Oxford. The PDRA may also be required to teach up to four sets of undergraduate or graduate classes per year.

Eligibility: With a PhD awarded, or a Masters degree and PhD submitted (at the time of taking up the position) in mathematics, engineering, physics or a related discipline, the successful candidate will have experience in the development and modelling of experiments in fluid and/or solid mechanics together with expertise in devising experiments to test mathematical predictions and the ability to pursue research as part of an interdisciplinary team.
