The aim of the project is to develop new designs for sound and vibration reducing structures based on periodic resonant inclusions or graded structures (metamaterials). The proposed research will respond to the engineering challenge of finding lightweight materials for sound and vibration reduction particularly at low frequencies. The project is a joint venture between the Open University, Loughborough University and University of Salford. Salford post doc will be involved with the theoretical part of the project, working in close collaboration with experimentalists based at the Open University and Loughborough.
