Description:Applicants are invited for the position of Research Assistant/Officer in the Department of Computer Science, College of Science, reference AC00549.  The post will run from 1/8/2013 at the earliest to 31/7/2014. The research will be directed byDr Mark W. Jones (http://www.swan.ac.uk/compsci/ourstaff/m.w.jones/) on EPSRC grant EP/I031243/1 Faster and higher quality global illumination.

Eligibility: Within the contract period, the position holders will carry out research in the scope of the research programme (ray tracing). Specific areas of interest include:

  • photon mapping;
  • path tracing;
  • Monte-Carlo techniques;
  • combining techniques, new techniques and GPU implementations.

It is expected that candidates will have experience in some of the above areas. The research programme will be directed to play to the existing strengths of the applicant. The current work has led to publications in ACM ToG, IEEE TVCG, EG (including best paper 2013), CGF and The Visual Computer.Suitable applicants should possess a good Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, or a related subject (such as Mathematics, Physics, Bio-informatics, and Geo-informatics). Applicants who have experience of research publication and hold a PhD degree in the relevant areas listed above will have an advantage.
