Job description

  • You prepare a doctoral thesis in the field of Applied Veterinary Morphology, evaluating the effects of various management and weaning strategies used in pork production on the development of the intestinal immune system of the piglet. In particular the differences in the development and maturation of the gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT) between low and normal birth weight piglets will be assessed.
  • You contribute to teaching and research activities within the domain of veterinary anatomy, pathology and immunology at the Laboratory for Applied Veterinary Morphology.


Profile and requirements

  • You hold a master degree in Life Sciences (Veterinary Medicine, Medicine, Biomedical sciences, Pharmaceutical sciences, Bio-engineer or similar);
  • You can submit outstanding academic results;
  • Also students in the final year of their degree can apply;
  • Foreign candidates are encouraged to apply;
  • Your academic qualities comply with the requirements stipulated in the university’s policy ( );
  • You are quality-oriented, conscientious, creative, customer-oriented and cooperative;
  • You have a certificate of ‘proefleider’/FELASA category C or are willing to obtain one.
  • Being familiar with livestock and especially pigs is of added value.


We offer

  • A doctoral scholarship for a period of two years, with the possibility of renewal for a further two-year period after positive evaluation;
  • The start date of scholarship will be October 1st 2013, November 1st 2013, December 1st 2013 or January 1st 2014;
  • A monthly grant amount ranging from € 2.124,11 – € 2.265,67;
  • A dynamic and stimulating work environment.
