Job description

  • You prepare a doctoral thesis on the socio-economic gradient of family formation in Belgium, with a specific focus on the combination work-family and the impact of social policy;
  • You contribute to teaching and research in the Centre for Longitudinal and Life-course Studies (CLLS).

Profile and requirements

  • You hold a master degree in social sciences (sociology, demography, economy or social-economic sciences);
  • You can submit outstanding academic results;
  • Also students in the final year of their degree can apply;
  • Foreign candidates are encouraged to apply;
  • Your academic qualities comply with the requirements stipulated in the university’s policy(;
  • You are quality-oriented, conscientious, creative, customer-oriented and cooperative;
  • Your curriculum shows an articulated interest in social demography and sociology of the family;
  • You are familiar with advanced quantitative methodology for the analysis of longitudinal data (event-history analysis, sequence analysis, multilevel modeling,…) and/or are interested to improve your skills in quantitative analysis;
  • Your academic English and writing skills allow you to successfully communicate research results.

We offer

  • A doctoral scholarship for a period of two years, with the possibility of renewal for a further two-year period after positive evaluation;
  • The start date of scholarship will be October 1st 2013, November 1st 2013, December 1st 2013 or January 1st 2014;
  • A monthly grant amount ranging from € 2.124,11 – € 2.265,67;
  • A dynamic and stimulating work environment.
