Specific subject description Research in linguistics at the department is focused on linguistic interaction as it occurs in spoken and written dialogue. Within this area the following sub-areas are particularly relevant for the position:

– spoken and multimodal language
– dialogue, interaction and conversation
– corpus linguistics (with focus on corpora of transcribed linguistic interaction/dialogue) human-computer interaction and dialogue systems
– multilingual interaction and sociolinguistic interaction
– phonetics
– (formal) semantics
– (formal) pragmatics
– computer mediated communication
– language learning and socializing
– non-verbal communication
Linguistics is situated within an interdisciplinary environment – research collaboration with theoretical philosophy, logic, moral philosophy and the philosophy of science, and the Centre for Language Technology are currently well-established.
Job assignments:
The appointee of the 2-year position is expected to conduct independent research (80% of full time) and engage in departmental duties (20% of full time). Departmental duties may include teaching and research administration such as the organization of and participation in workshops, seminars and reading groups as well as taking part in other research assistant tasks. The successful applicant is expected to perform most of their work in Gothenburg, where they are expected to participate actively in the departmental weekly seminar. Candidates must be able to speak and write fluent Swedish and/or English.
Asssessment:
Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 – 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.The candidates will be primarily assessed in respect to their scientific skills in one or more of the areas listed above. Academic skills will be assessed on the basis of a candidate’s dissertation, other scholarly publications and the submitted research plan. Applicants who demonstrate that they are familiar with the discourse of the self-chosen research area and who can clearly formulate their own thought-provoking ideas with strong, compelling arguments will be judged as particularly suitable for the position. Good organizational skills and good interpersonal skills are also desirable. We may ask to interview a select number of candidates or contact their referees.
