Job description

  • You prepare a doctoral thesis in the field of neurosciences of neurodegenerative brain disorders, entitled ‘Biochemical and clinical characterization of diagnostic markers for frontotemporal lobar degeneration’. This research project that consists of a clinical and biochemical part, will lead to an improved characterization and diagnosis of this second most common early-onset dementia.
  • You contribute to teaching and research in the Reference Center for Biological Markers of Dementia (BIODEM) at the Department of Biomedical Sciences of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical, Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences.


Profile and requirements

  • You hold a master degree in medical or biomedical sciences, biochemistry, biotechnology or biology;
  • You can submit outstanding academic results;
  • Also students in the final year of their degree can apply;
  • Foreign candidates are encouraged to apply;
  • Your academic qualities comply with the requirements stipulated in the university’s policy(;
  • You are quality-oriented, conscientious, flexible, accurate, creative, customer-oriented and cooperative;
  • You have excellent communication skills and are fluent in English;
  • You have excellent organisational skills;
  • You have well-developed social skills directed to working in a multidisciplinary team.


We offer

  • A doctoral scholarship for a period of two years, with the possibility of renewal for a further two-year period after positive evaluation;
  • The start date of scholarship will be October 1st 2013, November 1st 2013, December 1st 2013 or January 1st 2014;
  • A monthly grant amount ranging from € 2.124,11 – € 2.265,67;
  • A dynamic and stimulating work environment.
